What to consider when purchasing a mobility scooter

Where you want to use the scooter
This will determine not only what class of scooter you might need (4mph or 8mph) but also the type of tyre you might consider, battery range and ground clearance. If you want to transport the scooter in a vehicle then it may need to be lightweight, fold up or break into parts, or if you want to travel on the road then you will need to consider safety and visibility alongside comfort and range.
Where will you store the scooter
Storage is an issue for many scooter users. Small boot/pavement scooters can be stored in the car and charged remotely. The introduction of quality lithium batteries has meant that users can easily lift batteries indoors for charging. Larger scooters would need to be stored in the house or other building/undercover, most importantly scooters should be protected from the wet weather and extreme temperatures, preferably under solid cover such as a garage or shed.
How much do you want to spend
A big consideration for most people, new scooters are likely to provide you with longer warranty cover than pre-own products. All pre-own products at Mendip Mobility come with a full battery test report, are fully serviced and come with either a 3 or 6-month warranty depending on their value.
Do you have any health requirements
It’s important to consider whether you may need particular features to ensure the scooter you choose fully meets your needs. Considering things like the type of seat you need, suspension, solid or pneumatic tyres and the manageability of the product, for example single hand operation, are integral to choosing the most appropriate product.
